Default One particular user: Word hangs on new document...

Hi,

Office XP, network with 50 clients, everything works fine but for one user
there is a problem:

When she starts Word and start typing on a new document word hangs
immediately using 100% CPU cycles.

I have erased all word settings in HKEY_CUREENT_USER but the problem
persists. When any other user uses the same computer, Word works fine.
When this particular user starts Word on another computer, the same problem
occurs.

Thanks a lot for tips on what's going on and how to remedy it.

Rod

I would guess that it is a problem with that user's normal.dot template.
Sounds like the template must be stored on the network somewhere if the
problem follows the user from computer to computer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. Normal.dot was my first thought too, but despite that I
have enabled all 'show hidden files' and 'show system files' there is no
normal.dot in this user's documents and settings folder. As I mentioned
before, this is Office XP. Any clue why I cannot find it?

This is a client of a windows domain, when I open the user's profile in the
server to look for it there I of course get an access denied error.

Thanks again for tips

Some supplemental information:

The client is w2k and I when I search for ntuser and other system files it
finds those without problems. The problem is just that it does not find any
normal.dot files even when logged in as administrator...

Rod: Normal.dot will exist where it says User Templates are stored if you go
to Tools--Options, File locations tab. If you can't get to that, please
make sure you are not only VIEWING hidden and system files, but SEARCHING
for them, too. There's TWO settings you must beware of.

Anne,

Does w2k have a SEARCHING for hidden/system files too...? As I mentioned I
thought ntuser was a hidden/system file and my searches finds that file, at
least...

Look in the folder designated as the holder for user templates. Tools
Options File Locations.
