Default spellchecking in documents with edits tracked

Sometimes when I have tracked edits in a document, spellcheck will mark it as
a misspelling (for example, I changed see to seeing, and spellcheck treats
"ing" as a separate, misspelled word). To bypass this in the past, I have
saved a copy of the file and then accepted all edits and spellchecked the
document with edits accepted. For some reason, this is no longer working, and
spellcheck continues to mark "ing" as a separate, misspelled word despite the
fact that the edits have been accepted.

How can I fix this (Word 2003)?
