Default style and pg #

I created a new style so that my headings are now label different. for
instance I have NewStyle 1 instead on Heading 1. I fixed it so that the
toc will read it and format ok. But I can't get the page numbers to
cooperate! I want them to read the chapter number and the page number. It
tells me that it does not recognize the chapter and can only display the page
number. I know that it wants me to say that the heading style is HEADING 1 -
BUT IT'S NOT!!! How do I tell it that NewStyle 1 = Heading 1?

Word cannot use any heading style except the built-in ones for the "chapter
number."

Thank you... after doing quite a bit of research I have come to that
realization!
