Default how do I change permission to open a folder/drive?

I have a disc with word docs in my H drive....
I go to word and try to open them and I get the following..

"Incorrect function"

then,

"you do not have access to the folder H: See your administer for access of
this file.

Please note I am the only one using this computer...

I'm guessing the H drive is a CD-RW... See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905431.

Instead, copy the files to the hard drive. Work on them there, and
then close them. Copy the files back to the H drive outside of Word.
