Default How to copy & paste with out copying headers, etc

We need to copy large volumes of text from one document to another.

The original document has headers, footers, page numbers & more setup.

The original document has many chapters and may be 200 to 300 pages long.

We want to be aboe to copy the original document and keep italics, bolds,
underlines, etc but not copy the Headers, Footers, Page Number setup, etc.

How can we do this?

Ditto for Paragraph styles... Can we copy the text without the Paragraph
indention, space before & after... but retain the italics, bolds &
underlines?

thanks for any help.

You may need to do this in two phases, each involving a new document:

1. First make a copy of the document. In that copy, remove all section
breaks (search for ^b and replace with nothing). This step is not necessary
if the document is all in one section.

2. Now create a new document based on the template you want to use. Press
Enter a couple of times, then use Insert | File to insert the copy of the
document without section breaks; this should insert the text without any
page layout (header/footer, paper size, margins, etc.).

3. Now select all the text and apply the paragraph style you will be using
most: Body Text, say, or Body Text First Indent. This will apply the
paragraph style without affecting font formatting.

4. Now step through the document and apply other paragraph styles as needed
for headings, extracts (Block Text), etc.

Probably the best idea would be to set up a completely empty document
end define all the necessary styles, that you like to have for the
lists, for the paragraph spacing, etc.
Then copy the original document, but while copying, make sure that the
document updates all style settings to correspond to the new defined
settings of the empty document. Especially, that can be tricky though,
if you have numbered formulas in your documents, and you have to
combine several documents.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...ectionInfo.htm.

As for paragraph styles, if you have the same styles in use in your
receiving document, the paragraphs should be formatted in the receiving
document's version of the style.
