Default cursor highlights everything

When I am in my document and I click on a certain spot it seems to take that
as THE place to start. because when i click anywhere else it highlights from
first clicked place to the next...highlighting EVERYTHING...help make this
stop

Is the EXT selection mode in the status bar on?

No it isn't but I got the girl to restart her computer and that has seemed to
fix it for now...thanks harvey
