Default Keep Database Merged to Form Letter

I created a Form letter in Word 2003. I want to change the information in
the database each week, open the merged form letter and click on the merge
toolbutton and have it merge the new information. When I open the form
letter with the merge fields, it seems I have to go through all the steps to
merge the same excel data sheet to the document again. In Word 2000, the
database opened with the form letter each time unless I unmerged it. Please
help. I am trying to assist a MS Office novice.

Are you saving the mail merge main document after attaching the data source
to it and inserting the merge fields in the desired locations?

If you revert to connecting via DDE (check Word
Tools|Options|general|"Confirm conversions at open" and reconnect to your
data source. the overall effect is more likely to be like the one you used
to have.
