Default Change drive to save word documents in Word 2003

Iwould like to have the facility to store all word 2003 documents on second
hard drive, rather than that on which the OS and registry are situated. A
reformat of the C;/ drive would not then affect the documents files. We used
to have this facility in previous editions. Why was it changed?

To my knowledge, it wasn't. Tools--Options, File locations tab... You may
need to type in the location.
