Default Cursor moving to the middle of text

Hi, I've recently bought a Sony Vaio with Vista installed. Whilst typing long
passages of text, the cursor arbitrarily moves to a different point in the
text and I find that I'm typing in the middle of another word. Does anyone
else experience this and if so, are there any solutions.

Many thanks, look forward to hearing.

Usually this happens on a laptop when the touchpad is being inadvertently
touched.
