Default How to back date system to recover lost text?

Somehow? I lost all 30 pages of text. No versions available, nothing in
recycle bin. Cannot restore. Is it possible to change date of system to day
before error? and then capture text?

Sorry, no, computers don't work like time machines. If you didn't make
a separate backup copy of the document, it's gone.

To prepare for the next disaster, see
http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm. It would also be a
good idea to back up all the other files Word depends on:

And a guess at what happened for future reference...

You were typing a Capital A but by mistake you pressed Ctrl+A (SelectAll)
instead of Shift+A and the next button you pressed overwrote the whole
document. Hence all text gone.

When this happens, use Ctrl-Z to recover.

Crikey! And that's pretty easy to do. I'll try some experiments with this
(and report back)...

Well, that struck me as a potential disaster far too easy to invoke. But
I've tried it and if you notice it after typing the one character that
removes the block after you've typed CTRL-A, you can undo under edit and
bring it back. I think undo works for a limited number of undos...

I am not sure what the limit is, but it is enough for most purposes. That
is enough that I would say it is unlimited.
