Default Setting the margins globally

Has anyone found out, or is there a way, how to set the margins of word
globally throughout a company? Whehter it be group policy, regitry setting,
or anything else? I know that the setting is stored in the normal template
but that get recreated and so on.

You don't want to do anything that affects users' Normal.dot. For company
documents that have to have a specific format you should be creating and
distributing specific document templates.

I understand what you are saying. Here is why this would help out
tremendously.

New user comes to the firm. Logs in. I forget to change the page setup to
1" all the way around. Then this person has a 1.25 when others have 1".

Or...

Problem comes along. I have to recreate the normal.dot. Margins are reset
to the default of 1" and 1.25". I either have to set them or I forget to and
then they call me later, or not call me and deal with the problem.

Since this process happens so often, I need to just set a (this is a law
firm) firm policy of the computers automatically checking and making sure
that the margins are at 1" all the way around, and if not change them.

As far as making templates. We have a custom menu with about 50 macros and
templates to do what you are speaking of. Being able to change this default
would be tremendous as I am the only IT support for 80 people.

Thank you and please tell me if there is a way to do so

Billy,

I think what Suzanne is trying to say is that your employees, new or not,
need to be trained to use the templates developed by the firm to submit
their correspondence. If they submit a "Proposal" then it should be based
on the firm's "Proposal" template. A "Bid" on the firm's "Bid" template and
so on.

Ok...

I see what your saying. More specifically, here is the problem that
happened in the last few days.

Somone opens a document that was put in "our system" with non firm margins.
Then a secretary opens it with the firms margins and the formatting is
incorrect.

Not all the time do people use templates to create documents. The templates
that we have , have the margins as wanted.

Billy,

I feel your pain. I am a military person and have the advantage of just
passing the offending document back to the originator with something like
"try again" scrawled across the face of the document ;-)

I will back out here and hopefully a more compassionate office manager will
come along offering a solution.
