under the Send option, the 'conveert to pdf' option is missing. I can only
email or email/fax. How do I get the pdf option back?

this is not a standard option in any version of Word out-of-the-box.
That means it probably comes from an Add-In (full version of Acrobat or
something similar). See if re-installing this tool fixes it.
