When I open New Microsoft Word Document and try to type, there is a message
that says "modification not allowed, selection is locked". I checked the
security settings under Properties, and alll the Allow boxes are all checked.

Is this a trial version of Word/Office? If so, it's time to buy a full
version.

If you are sure that you are running a full version, try exiting Word and
then renaming the normal.dotm template. Restart Word and see if it now
works.

To locate normal.dotm, you can search for the file in Windows (Windows key +
F); be sure to search hidden files and folders.
