Spell check is working in MS Word 2016 but not Grammar Check. it is neither highlighting/underlining error nor recommending suggestion. for instance if i type " The is was a" nothing happens.

i did the following
Review - Language - Language - set proofing Language - unchecked "Do not check Grammar"

File - Options - Proofing - Checked "Mark grammar errors as you type" and No Exceptions created.

Went to %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates and modified the file name normal.dotm

What else to be done. please assist
