uso gli stili per creare automaticamente le voci degli indici (capitoli,
sezioni, comma, etc)

due domande:
il campo Indice è aggiornabile in automatico oppure devo ogni volta fare
click destro, Update, etc etc?
posso modificarne la struttura, p.e. mettendo il numero di pagina a inizio
riga?

invece di
Premessa.......................................... ..................1
Introduzione...................................... ..................2
Ringraziamenti.................................... ..................3

dove l'occhio si perde per strada e sbaglia a leggere il numero di pagina
giusto...

io vorrei:

1 .... Premessa
2 .... Introduzione
3 .... Ringraziamenti

I have two questions:
can I make the index field automatically updated when I make changes to the
document or at least when I save it?
can I change the index style?

instead of:

Premise........................................... ..................1
Introduction...................................... ..................2
Thanks to................................................ ...........3

where you can get confused following the dots line, I'd like to have it
this way:

1 .... Premise
2 .... Introduction
3 .... Thanks to

Are those page numbers?

It looks like this is a Table of Contents and not an Index.

I think you cannot put the page number before the ToC or Index entry.

But you can make the ToC or Index lines narrower:

Premise .... 1
Introduction 2
Thanks to .. 3

You do that with the Paragraph Styles that Word adds when you insert a ToC
or Index.

Paragraph Styles are easy to change -- you probably know how to do that.

yes, nice ideas to improve the appearance, even if my "idea" is not present

now I have another one: set an alternate background color to highlight odd
or even lines

I'll wait for Office 2025, I hope they (MS) will implement the above
