Default Slow Start

Have Windows XP and a new fast computer. Office 97 is installed with Word
2003 upgrade . Word is very slow to start ( in comparison to Excel, which is
instant ) and before it actually starts it quickly puts a dialog box on the
screen, which says €śpreparing to install€ť. I thought that perhaps there was
something wrong with the upgrade installation, but reinstalling did not
correct the problem. How can I correct this?
