Default Word 2003 Insert File Not Responding

When trying to open a Word document the response is extremely slow
drilling down through the folders to get to the file.

The same problem occurs when I am trying to attach a file in Outlook.

Any help?

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.
