This shouldn't be a problem. You might want adaquate contrast for visual
appeal, between text, picture objects, over the background color. Sometimes
if you customize color settings too light, the color does not appear in the
actual print. So starting with the default color setting, might be a good
start. Then if it is just too dark, experiment with lightening the color.
Results can vary between a Bubble Jet or Laser printer, and the quality of
paper used. For the best potential quality, set your printing speed to the
slowest setting possible, with "add diffusion", or whatever term your printer
manufacturer uses. Diffision sets the printer to capture gradient
variations, and suttle detail. You will most likely have to print it at the
least 3 or 4 times to compare results, before finalizing and saving all
settings. If you could share what version of Microsoft Office Word, and
printer is being used, someone might be able to offer more specific options.

In my experience, busy patterns make text harder to distinquish, and a good
solid or gradient (like rainbow or spectrum) allows for clearer text
visibility and color balance.

If you hae your Background set in the doc & are simply asking how to get it
printed, go to ToolsOptionsPrint (or click the Options button in the Print
dialog box) and check the block for Bacground Colors and Images.

I suspect you have added a background using Format | Background. This
feature is intended for Web pages only. There are two ways to make it print:

1. In Word 2003 only, check the box for "Background colors and images" on
the Print tab of Tools | Options.

2. In previous versions, save the document as a Web page, open it in your
browser, change the browser Options to print backgrounds, and print from
your browser.

Obviously, (2) is not going to be what you want, so if you have Word 2002 or
earlier, you need to create a "watermark" instead of a background. If you
have Word 2002, you can use Format | Background | Printed Watermark. For
earlier versions, see €œHOW TO: Create a Watermark in Word 97 and in
Microsoft Word 2000€�

background will almost certainly not print clear to the edge since most
printers, for mechanical reasons, have a finite unprintable area on every
side, usually larger on the trailing edge.
