Default How to change to default font from Asian input to Latin input?

I'm using MS Word 2003 SP2. I installed Asian language package because
sometimes I need to open or write documents in Asian fonts. But mostly I
still write in English and I prefer the standard Times New Romans for Normal
template. However everytime I open a new document the font is always set to a
Chinese font (SumSun) and the input language as Chinese.

I tried to set the default font from the Tools menu, but there I have to
select both Asian and Latin default text font , and I can't specify Latin
over Asian font.

I have done all that I could: I set the default language to English (U.S.)
using Tools menu in MS Word, and set English as the default input language in
Control panelReginal and Language OptionsLanguageDetailsdefault input
language.

There's no such problem with MS Excel or PowerPoint, which I can easily
change the default font.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. As I mentioned before, this didn't work. Because since
I installed the Asian language package,in the Format | Font tab, there are 2
default language setting concurrently, one for Asian input and one for Latin
input. So when I clicm Default, it sets both default inputs. I can't specify
Latin one over the Asian one...

All your defaults are as set in the template. If you change that it should
help. See: http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErr...ocNotBlank.htm for
details.

Default How to change to default font from Asian input to Latin input?

Thanks for the reply too. I looked at the web page at mvps.org, but my
problem is not solved yet. I did try to change the template file "normal.dot"
and I could change the font and format etc.. But one thing the template does
NOT save is the Language, which is always reset back to "Chinese (PRC)". I
don't know why this happens, because I have already set the Language to
"English (U.S.)" at the Tool | Language | Set language...
Any more suggestion?

Answer found!

I just realized that there's one more place to select the language: besides
the Control Panel's "Regional and Language Options", and besides the "Set
Language" in the MS Word's "Tools" menu, there's one more place: it's the
"Start | Programs | Microsoft Office | Microsoft Office Tools | Microsoft
Office 2003 Language Settings". There I changed the lauguate that "defines
default behavior in Microsoft Office applications" to English, and now the MS
Word "behaves" normally!

Glad you're sorted. Getting the language settings right can be a real pain
sometimes.
