Default Word mail merge ,label format ,using an Excel file.

I am trying to mail merge an Excel file into a mailing label format. The
following message comes up "Word could not re-establish a DDE connection to
Microsoft Excel to complete the current task" WHat does that mean and how
can I fix it?
