Default The equation editor should have more functionality like MathType.

Microsoft is sometimes said to have a bad standing in the universities so why
don't they do something about it like making the Equation editor far better.
MathType is a far better product to write formulas and supports the TeX
language which is more or less standard on universities.

Hello...

Although I understand where you're coming from, I must respectfully disagree.

Programs such as the one you mention are written specifically to accommodate
niche markets. I don't claim to be accurate, but as an "educated guess" I
doubt that 25% of Word users even know about the Equation Editor, let alone
use it (or care to).

One of the major problems with Word as it stands , IMHO, is that Microsoft
has already bent over too far backward in an effort to be 'all things to all
people'. The result is that Word is bloated and extended to such a point that
it has become far more hindered than helped. It has been expressed by many,
far wiser than I, that MS might do well to concentrate fewer resources on
expanding the scope of the product and more on making the core features more
reliable.
