Default Farsi typing trouble

Since I installed Vista and Office/Word2007 on my PC a couple of months ago,
I have been unable to type Farsi in Word. I never had any trouble with this
in XP.

I have, of course, installed Farsi in the language settings (input) and I
also have a large selection of Farsi fonts, which all display once Word is
opened. However, it does not matter which font I choose from the menu, it
just won't type! I can type Farsi in Wordpad, but not in Word (so it seems
that it is not the Vista settings, but some Office fault?).

Word opens/displays/reads docs in Farsi without any problems and shows the
font correctly, but e.g. editing these in Farsi is impossible.

What does "won't type" mean? You press a key and nothing at all
happens?

Are you somehow opening your documents in a locked or protected mode?

Default Farsi typing trouble

Hi Grammatim,
Yes, exactly! I press the keys and nothing happens (tried both directions,
l-r and r-l)! I have no trouble typing in other languages and it is also
possible to insert Farsi letters by InsertSymbol but this is of course not a
viable alternative for typing texts!
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Persian in Windows Vista as well as in
the Office2007 Language Settings and it didn't help a bit. Have any ideas???

Thanks a lot...

I've never had a problem with any of my language-keyboards, but I've
also never had 2007. What if you use the On-Screen Keyboard? (In
Vista: Start All Programs Accessories Accessibility On-Screen
Keyboard) Open it up (your default layout will be showing), then click
in a document and change to the Farsi keyboard, then move your cursor
over the OSK and it magically turns into the Farsi diagram, and you
can type by clicking on the keys. (Or you can set it to "Hover" -- I
like "Hover 0.50 sec.") Does it work now?

Default Farsi typing trouble

Hi Grammatim,
Thanks for your reply again. I tried the OSK and it didn't work out. No
letters were typed in the doc. But, even if it did work out, it wouldn't
solve my problem since I need to be able to use my normal keyboard. I use
Persian/Farsi in Word for writing long texts (my thesis is several hundred
pages) and not just a few words here and there, and I can't do that by using
a mouse and an OSK.... I need to find another way. Please give me any other
ideas you might have, otherwise perhaps I shall have to reinstall the whole
Office??? What do you think?

I have no idea what the problem might be. Using the OSK was a means to
test whether it's a hardware problem.

Have you tried the other Arabic scripts? If Urdu, for instance, works,
you can type Persian with that keyboard.

Ah ... you are the same person. Let's hope an MVP has some
suggestions.

Meanwhile, you could try closing Word, deleting the Arabic/Persian/
Urdu keyboards in Windows (in Vista; in XP ,delete the languages), and
Restarting the computer; and then install Persian again. Maybe that
would fix it.
