Default how do I turn off the auto delte as I am typing?

As I am typing in a written paragraph it is deleting the letter in front of
it. How do I turn this off?

You're not alone. This is one of the most frequently asked FAQs. It's
entirely too easy to press Insert when reaching for Delete or Backspace, and
you never discover it till much later. One tip is that OVR on the status bar
will be black; you can also double-click on that to change the setting, and
in some cases you would have to: on some new keyboards, I'm told, there is
no Insert key--presumably in response to the complaints of so many users who
pressed it inadvertently.
