Default my 165 page word 2003 just went from 2 MB to 90 MB

My 165 page word 2003 document just went from 2 MB to 90 MB !

What happened and how do I fix it ?

I printed to PDF and it was only 1.1 MB.

Did you insert a few pictures? If so, change their format from .bmp to .jpg

Have you been cutting and pasting objects diectly from other applications?

Hi Lynn,

1. open the doc in Word.
2. Do file, save as and choose HTML.
3. Close Word
4. Reopen Word and open the HTML version you just made.
5. Save it as a .doc file (maybe with a different name)

That should reduce the file size significantly.

1. open the doc in Word.
2. Do file, save as and choose HTML.
3. Close Word
4. Reopen Word and open the HTML version you just made.
5. Save it as a .doc file (maybe with a different name)

That should reduce the file size significantly.


HTML said it was going to lose some of my formatting. So I saved as
XML. Reduced my file size to 2.9 MB ! Then I opened my XML file
and resaved as DOC. That reduced my DOC file to 1.8 MB !
