Default counting for a sum w/ multiple criteria

In an excel worksheet I am trying to get a formula to return a numeric value
for the following instance

Column c Column L

1/5/2006 QB

I need a formula that will count every time a row has these two criteria.
Any help would be appreciated

You should ask in an Excel newsgroup, but you need to set up an
If..then..else formula

Hope this helps.

Hi Michelle,

Try:
=SUM(IF((C1:C100=DATEVALUE("1/5/2006"))*(L1:L100="QB"),1,))
entered as an array formula (i.e. press Ctrl-Shift-Enter, instead of just
enter). The formula will then show up as:
{=SUM(IF((C1:C100=DATEVALUE("1/5/2006"))*(L1:L100="QB"),1,))}

Adjust your range references to suit and, if the test date & string are in
cells, you can refer to them directly, as in:
=SUM(IF((C1:C100=A1)*(L1:L100=A2),1,))
substituting A1 & A2 for the actual references.

Cheers
