No, if you did not save it, there is nothing to be retrieved.

says... No, if you did not save it, there is nothing to be retrieved. Not necessarily. Word may have been set to keep timed backups. These are normally deleted when the document is closed, but they may remain on the disk (although not in the recycle bin). A disk snooping utility might locate them. Worth a try if the lost document is important. -- Peter Aitken Author, MS Word for Medical and Technical Writers www.tech-word.com |

om... Not necessarily. Word may have been set to keep timed backups. These are normally deleted when the document is closed, but they may remain on the disk (although not in the recycle bin). A disk snooping utility might locate them. Worth a try if the lost document is important. As an additional note, in order to for Word to create a timed backup you need an add-in (SaveReminder.dot) which isn't something Microsoft advertises and few folks actually know about it. So chances are, if someone has a backup they'd know it. :-) Otherwise there is the "Automatically create Backup copy" but if this option is enabled, (it's not automatically turned on by default), the document needs to actually be saved at least twice in order for a backup to be created. Now, if you are referring to an Automatic Recovery Save, this is not a backup. It's only used if an error is encountered and, yes, they are deleted when you close the file. If someone is lucky enough for Word to not automatically delete these files there's no need for a disk snooping utility, they would be in the "Autorecover files" folder. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beth Melton Microsoft Office MVP https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Melton What is a Microsoft MVP? http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/gp/mvpfaqs |
