Default Large Word file sizes when image objects are copied from the clipb

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem with Microsoft Office Word 2003. I am currently
running Windows XP with SP2. When I go to take a screen capture in Windows
(using ALT PRTSCN) and paste the image in Word 2003 (using CTRL V) my Word
document size is approximately 4 mb while other computers in our organization
with the same versions (of the OS and Office) a similar document is only a
couple hundred kb.

Everything I read on-line states that pasting the image from the clipboard
into Word, Word inserts the image as an uncompresed BMP file. Why then two
different computers running both the same OS (XP SP2) and version of Office
(2003) come back with two file size results (4 mb vs. 200 kb - a large
difference of course)?

If anyone knows how to fix this issue or any additional information it would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike

As a first cut, File Properties. Make sure that "Save preview picture" is
*not* ticked.

If that does not solve the problem, then go through Suzanne Barnhill's list
of what causes unnecessarily large file sizes. You'll find the list he

Hope this helps.
