While typing in word documents the overwrite mode comes on and off. This also
occurs while typing in blogs or web documents like Live Journal. Has any one
jhad a similar problem. If it is a virus or parasite does any one have a
removal tool?

You are almost certainly catching the INS key whilst typing.
