I want to create a document that is an index with two clumns in it
One column would be the basic index the second would be a cross reference key.
This is an information retrevial system. This is a living document and will have changes and additions in the future I want the outline/list to be multi level. This is how i want the style to look: BASIC INDEX CROSS REFERENCE 100.00 Alphabet title .010 sub category 4400.00 Refernce to another section .020 subcategory .021 sub sub category .022 sub sub category 200.00 Next heading .010 subcategory 300.00 Continnued Category etc with additional levels??? I feel like I have may be on the verge of figuring thius out but then the style/format does not work correctly and I get lost can anyone help? I have not been able to even get to the secoind column part, the cross reference -- thank you so much! |

I want to create a document that is an index with two clumns init
If those are the sorts of numbers that are to appear -- a decimal
classified outline -- then this isn't an index (which directs you to page numbers) but a numbered outline with (as shown) three levels. Your right-hand column could be done with a simple tab set in the middle of the line. If the entries in the left column are in fact the headers of sections of a text, then this would be even simpler -- a Table of Contents. (But then you couldn't add the right column until it was completely finished, or each time you updated it, it would go away.)
