Over a long time I have noticed that many times the same question or a very
similar one, is asked several times by several people in a very short space
of time, not having been asked for ages before and probably not then asked
again for ages more. The only explanation I can come up with for this is
that some kind of search has directed all but the first questioner to the
particular forum because the question has recently been asked.

Might you have arrived here by searching for, say, gridlines? If so, did you
read the result your search? If not, did you search here after arriving but
before asking the question? If not, why not?

I write all this because the question was asked (by jwyatt) - and answered -
in a thread entitled "Invisible tables in Office 2007" last Thursday. It was
then asked again (by MonkeyGirl) in a thread entitled "How do I display
gridlines in a table on screen" on Monday and now you are asking. If you
look down the list of questions a dozen or so places you will find the
answer in the first thread I mentioned.

Of course, all that I see may be entirely coincidental. Nonetheless the
answer is there for all to see.

Enjoy,
Tony

It did not answer my question on printing gridlines vs. viewing.

For the general principles (note that gridlines don't print; borders do),
see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/Gridlines.htm and
