Just got a new version of Word and I can't figure out the simplest of things!
On the bottom of my screen there are (as usual) all of my open applications and documents. I SHOULD be able to right click on something, hit "Close" and have it close. But with this new Word, I can't right click to close a document. SOMETIMES it'll close if it's not OPEN on the screen (if it's minimized)...but it never lets me close it by right-clicking if it's open. I'm sure there's some setting somewhere that I can change but can't for the life of me figure out why this is so difficult to do! |

I'm not sure what you are trying to do...
Usually, the easiest way to close a document is to click the X in the upper right corner, or to use Ctrl+F4. This applies to recent as well as older Word versions. However, if you are saying that you want Word to use the MDI interface, as older versions did, clear the "Show all windows in the Taskbar" option in Office button | Word Options, Advanced category (I'm assuming here that you are using Word 2007). For more on the MDI and SDI interfaces, see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/SDIMDI.htm. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "sadiwest" wrote: Just got a new version of Word and I can't figure out the simplest of things! What I'm trying to do is close Word by right-clicking on the tile at the
bottom of my screen. Everyting open has a tile, and I SHOULD be able to right click on it and select "close", but this option doesn't work. I can right click and select "close" but nothing happens when I do. That's all I'm trying to do and all I'm trying to figure out. "Stefan Blom" wrote: I'm not sure what you are trying to do... Hi Sadiwest,
What version of Windows are you using and does Word have any add-ins running? The right click on a Windows Taskbar choice and choosing close works for me on Windows XP. It can sometimes have a delay if you're on a network or have used the document building blocks feature. If you hold the control key while starting Word do you get the same result? ============ "sadiwest" wrote in message ... Bob,
Those are all fine questions. I have no idea what an add-in is, though. Truth be told I work for a HUGE company (we're all over the country) and all I know about computers is what I have to do on a daily basis. I'm self-taught with certain programs but when it comes to this particular situation I'm stumped. I don't think it's a delay (it'd be a LONG delay, as I've waited nearly 30 seconds when trying this before giving up and clicking the "X"), and I'm convinced there's some setting somewhere that I haven't found/corrected. We are definately on a network, but I don't know what the 'building blocks' is.... Any help/suggestions (other than throwing this out the window) are appreciated. -Sandi "Bob Buckland ?:-)" wrote: Hi Sadiwest, What version of Windows are you using and does Word have any add-ins running?
