Default Cannot delete words

When I highlight or backspace the word is still there. I did accept all
changes, but the next time I need to delete, I have to accept changes again.
What can I do to speed this up and is there a way to not have reviewing -
ever?

I use Word 2003

Did you turn Track Changes off before accepting all the changes?

No, but it seems to work now. Will track changes still be turned off next
time I open Word?
