I'm trying to help a friend of mine; he's got a problem with bulleted
outlines. When using a bulleted list, he would normally hit the "tab" key to indent a first-level bullet fromo a second-level bullet. But now, the tab key indents the cursor further in on the same line instead. You can still get a second-level bullet by pressing the text-indent button on the toolbar. He says he did nothing at all; he just started Word one day and it was acting as described. I looked around, but could see any settings that would fix this; any ideas? TIA |

If I understand you correctly, he is trying to move back a level? If so, you
need to hit shift and tab to move backwards. If that doesn't work try the increase/decrease indent on the formatting toolbar. Thanks, but that's not exactly what I was looking for; my fault for not being
clear. Usually, he would use tab to go forward a level and shift-tab to go back a level, but that's not working any more. The increase/decrease indent on the formatting toolbar does work, but he wanted to get the tab/shift-tab working again, as it's much more convenient. OK, now I understand, go to Insert, then Auto Text, then Auto Text again,
select the Auto Format As You Type tab, in there check the second to the last box which reads, Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces. That should fix the problem.
