How do I make Word 2007 not show markup by default? It's really annoying
that I have to keep turning that off. I have looked in "Word Options", and searched in Help, to no avail. Thanks. |

See http://groups.google.com/group/micro...1cbfc271178a01 There is a way, but first let me tell you why you shouldn't use it. By default the document opens in Final Showing Markup whenever there is markup that hasn't been accepted, to protect you from sending the document to another computer without realizing the markup is there. There have been some very embarrassing and very public instances of that among corporate and government users. If you insist: Go to Office button Word Options Trust Center Trust Center Settings Privacy Options. In the Document-specific section, clear the checkbox for "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving". Just remember that it's now up to you to look for markup before you send the document to anyone else. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. I'm having a similar problem with Word 2008 for Mac. But I don't know how to
take your advice about going to Office buttonWord Options etc. How do I open Office? I seem to have been able to trun off the checking of "markup" on my "normal" file, but on a file that I've already created, somehow this seems to be turned on somewhere, so that whenever I open it, "markup" is checked. I've even pasted the text into a new file but whenever I open it, it still has Markup checked. This actually affect how the feel can be accessed. For one thing, when I page through the file, when I get to a certain point, the file changes from Print layout to draft layout, and the footnotes in my paper disappear. In order to see them, I have to unclick "Markup"; then these pages can be see in the print layout all the way through (also allowing me to see my footnotes.) So how can I fix this file so there are no tracked changes and markup is turned permanently off? "JeffS" wrote: "Jay Freedman" wrote: JeffS wrote: How do I make Word 2007 not show markup by default? If you Accept All Changes, and Delete All Comments, there won't be any
markup left to show up when you don't want it to. But suddenly switching into Draft View doesn't seem to have anything to do with markup. 2003: On the Reviewing toolbar, there's a tiny down-arrow next to the
blue checkmark for Accept Change. Click it, and choose Accept All Changes. 2007: In the Review tab on the Ribbon, there's a giant Accept Change buttion. Click the little down-arrow below it and choose Accept All Changes. On Feb 12, 7:35*pm, Hillel wrote: anyone know: is there a way of removing all track changes from a document that has them? Jay,
Thanks for the link and teh explanation of this issue. I too have been fighting with a couple of documents that stubbbornly refused to save in the FINAL mode. I had searched on and off for several years for the cause and solution. Once I read your explanation, I was able to find the offending comment, reject it, change to final and then save. Reopened and viola problem solved. Thanks for pointing us to the cause and sure, not just cautioning us against turning off the option. Thanks again "Jay Freedman" wrote: JeffS wrote: How do I make Word 2007 not show markup by default? It's really annoying that I have to keep turning that off.
