Having a problem with mail merge files on a windows network. The excel
datasource as well as the mail merge main document and result documents
become locked. The staff working with the files state that they close them
normally but the network seems to think they are locked by the last person
using them. If you copy any of these files to a new location, the message
that they are locked for editing will come up. The only way to unlock the
files is to have someone with rights on the network take care of it.

Our server team said they think the issue is with Word 2003 and not the
server. Is this a known issue?

Sounds more like a network permissions issue to me.
