Default How do I set default for (opening) new/blank pages in word

When I open word / a blank document, the cursor is "centered" and "italic"
and is several lines from the top/left of the blank page. How do set the
defaults so that every new/blank page/document opens with the cursor at the
top left corner, not italic, etc.?

Thanks--this is driving me crazy.

This is a variation of the "blank not blank" problem, since what you're
seeing is not Word's normal default new document. See the following article:
