Table numbering: offsets not working in PDF version
I am using Word 2003, and I have a large document with separate files for
each chapter. There are tables in these chapters, with an Arabic number for each (Table 1, Table 2, etc); the numbers just increase by one for the whole document. In each file, I start the table numbering at the new value, by using the field code \r n, where "n" is the number I want to start at for this chapter (e.g., start with Table 20, instead of Table 1). All was working fine, and the numbering worked perfectly, even for the Table of Contents...until I needed to convert the document to PDF. Inexplicably (and only for a subset of the files), the output file restarted the tables numbering at "1", even though the .doc file would show that the table caption read "20". So the PDF version had the wrong numbers. Somehow, the PDF conversion is ignoring the table numbering offset used in the field code. Any ideas on how to make the PDF match the Word numbering? |

Table numbering: offsets not working in PDF version
If the option to update fields on print is selected, you could try clearing
it before converting to PDF. Alternatively, just lock the SEQ fields (which are being used by Word to create the caption numbers) in the document before converting to PDF. The easiest way is to select the whole document (Ctrl+A) and then press Ctrl+F11 to lock the fields in the selection. Of course, this will lock other fields as well, for example, the table of contents. Therefore, you may want to manually update the TOC first. When you are done converting to PDF, you can unlock fields in the selection by pressing Ctrl+Shift+F11. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "TextWrangler" wrote in message news I am using Word 2003, and I have a large document with separate files for each chapter.
