Is there a better method of drop down lists
Word 2003 drop down lists need to be locked in order to work. The first
entry on the list shows up by default. There is no option for "blank" so if the users sometimes don't want to use something on the list, they have to then unlock the document and delete the list so that the first entry doesn't show up. There must be a better way! |

Is there a better method of drop down lists
Hi Michelle,
Word 2003 drop down lists need to be locked in order to work. The first entry on the list shows up by default. There is no option for "blank" so if the users sometimes don't want to use something on the list, they have to then unlock the document and delete the list so that the first entry doesn't show up. There must be a better way! I know of two possibilities 1. Use the list on the Controls Toolbox. This will require a macro to fill the list (it's usually written to execute every time the document is opened), and it will trigger macro security 2. Use an AutoTextList field. You'd need to create each entry as an individual AutoText entry. Format them with their own style, which will provide a "Category" name. Set the field to use that category, so as to display only this set of AutoText entries.
