Turn off this auto date feature
I'm using Word 2000. Every time I type in 2008, a helpful (not)
yellow box appears with 2008-MM-DD. Often, I'm typing quickly and really really don't have the time to trip over these features which I did not ask for and have no idea how it could be assumed that I would want it. What happens is that somehow, in the midst of typing, the helpful date gets automatically inserted. Searching the web and usenet has not help to identify the switch that deactivates this #!@# $# feature. Please help me save my relationship with my computer (the innocent bystander in all of this). How do I turn off the feature? Thanks. |

In Word 2002 it's: Tools Autocorrect Smart tags Uncheck the ones you don't want or turn them all off by unchecking "Label text with smart tags". It may be somewhere else in Word 2000 but it should be close by. -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com |

Unfortunately, disabling this is a big case of throwing the baby out with
the bathwater. But you can do it by clearing the check box for "Show AutoComplete suggestions" in Insert | AutoText | AutoText. -- Suzanne S. I'm not one for autocompletion, so no baby in the bathwater. Thanks.

You must not have any useful AutoText entries (so it will not bother you
that Word 2007 has no AutoComplete), but I would hate to be unable to type "lore," press Enter, and get a page of lorem ipsum text (to cite just one example). Of course, even in Word 2007 I can type "lore" and press F3 with the same effect. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA "Paul" wrote in message ...
