Hi,
Here are some lack of feature or may be bugs to to fix 1. The "font style" list is not visible and therefore not accessible in Manage Styles windows | Set defaults tab 2. If any of built-in styles is used in Manage Styles window | Edit tab the "Delete" button for that style is active. And when pushing, it clears the formatting of the instances of that style. This has been the behavior of the Delete button for built-in styles for many
versions. The style cannot actually be deleted, but it is reset to its default out-of-the-box formatting in Normal.dot. -- Suzanne S. Hi Smbat,
I'm assuming you're in Word 2007 from your description. You may find the information on http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...970201033.aspx to be helpfu. The 'Style basics in Word' topic gives an overview of the style features for Word 2007. For #1 - What are you referring to as 'font style' list in Manage Styles=Set Defaults when you say it's 'not available'. If you're saying that the fonts are presented in samples of the fonts rather than plain text, that's true. Depending on the languages you have enabled for Word you may have separate choices for the default font to buildup in styles for Latin text font Asian text font Complex scripts text font. For #2 - What the [Delete] button in Home=Styles=Style Launcher [button on bottom right of Styles group] and in the [Text]Styles pane then choose Manage Styles=Edit button does can be confusing as it's not really obvious that it's actions are contextual. If I recall, it goes something like this - a. If the [Delete] button is not lit, then the style you currently have highlighted has not been used in the current document, so you can't delete (reset) it's use. b. If it's one of Word 2007's 268 built in styles, and it has been used in the document then as Suzanne mentioned the [Delete] button is deleting the application (use) of that style from the document rather than deleting the existance of the style. [Delete] here also removes it from the current 'Recommended' list for that document. c. If it's a style you (or Word) created just for that document then the [Delete] button not only removes the formatting of that style but also deletes the style definition from the document. d. If it's a style you created and used the Manage styles choice 'New document based on this template', then Word 2007 removes that styles formatting throughout the document and removes that style from the list of available styles in that document, but if you then start a new document from that same template (Normal.dotm by default) then the new document will again offer that style. For #3 - 'Recommended' styles are those you have chosen to 'Show' (be 'visible') in the Manage Styles=Recommend dialog, or if you've made no specific choices, what Word recommends to fit what you're editing based on the currently selected choices in Home=Styles=Change Styles. That list may change based on the template you use for creating a specific new document. If you haven't made any selections, generally they start with the styles of the default Quick style set. You can override what you set by using the 'Options' button in the 'Styles' pane and choosing in 'Style Options' to show 'All styles' . One group of 'styles' that stay 'recommended' even if in the 'Recommend' tab you choose [Select Built-in] or [Select All] are those that are displayed in the Word 2007 Table Styles gallery. These appear in Table Tools=Design when you have the cursor in a table in Word. You can hide those by using the Manage Styles=Restrict tab, setting them to [Restrict] and turning on there the [x] Limit formatting to permitted styles button. That setting only applies from that point of work forward (i.e. if you applied a themed table style in a document, then restrict the style, it won't remove any prior use of that table style, but it won't show it in the Table Styles gallery). ======================== "Grasshopper" wrote in message ... Hi Bob
Regarding #1 Saying 'Font Style' I mean the list "Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic". Also the 'Underline style' and 'Underlinse color'. In short it would be preferable to have all the properties that we have in 'Font' dialog box Thanks "Bob Buckland ?:-)" wrote: Hi Smbat, I'm assuming you're in Word 2007 from your description.
