I am doing the technical formatting of a thesis and the document's chapters
are enormous due to a lot of images used (complete doc over 500MB), so much so that the clien'ts computer cannot handle the combined document. Is it possible to keep the chapters as separate documents but have Word create a TOC that reflects the page numbers of the separate chapters and can be automatically updated? -- Lize |

Hi lize,
Yes - If you want to have a document that consists of just the TOC for all the related documents, you can insert a single TOC field followed by RD fields pointing to each of the other documents. See 'RD field' in Word's Help file for more details. One thing to note: Word's Help file say you need to use double backslashes (ie '\\') for the path separators, but you can use single forward slashes (ie '/') instead. -- Cheers macropod [MVP - Microsoft Word] "lize" wrote in message ...
