Word suggestion: styles that include text highlighting
Right now you cannot set text highlighting color as part of a style
definition; you have to change the formatting directly. I would like to suggest that styles in Word be added this feature, perhaps as part of their Font set of definitions: just like you are able to set what font and what size the text that is formatted with that syle will have, you should also be able to choose what highlighting color (if any) it will have. This feature would probably also make Word more aware of text highlighting as a formatting found throughout a document. Right now if you choose Clear Formatting for a selection which contains highlighted text, all the formatting is removed from the text with the exception of the highlighting. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Word suggestion: styles that include text highlighting
What you can do is add shading to a style. A big advantage is that the range
of colors is virtually unlimited (well, OK maybe only 64,000 colors). The icon for shading is on the tables toolbar, which may make it as convenient to use as highlighting. Actually I strongly prefer the highlight behavior you describe. I and most of my colleagues and clients use highlighting as markup. We do not want it to go away by clearing the formatting. Word suggestion: styles that include text highlighting
Hi, and thanks for replying to my suggestion thread.
I and most of my colleagues and clients use highlighting as markup. We do not want it to go away by clearing the formatting. Well, I do. Or rather, I would like Word to be aware that this is also a way of formatting text, just like bold and underline, and would like a command (either Clear Formatting or some other command, Clear All Formatting Including Highlight, for instance) that is able to recognize it. I have not been able to use shading to obtain a similar effect to that of highlighting, as you seem to suggest. |

Modify style format border and shading shading tab & pick the color
you want. Interestingly, W2007 has both the highlighter icon and the shading icon on the home tab (font group and paragraph group, respectively). I suspect they offer this as an answer to requests like yours. PamC wildetudor wrote: Hi, and thanks for replying to my suggestion thread.
