Default Why is my Write and Insert disabled?

I can't click on anything in most of the buttons in "Mailings" because they
are disabled. I am using Office Student and trial Office Professional.

These buttons will not be available until you have changed the document to a
mail merge main document and linked it to a data source. Use the "Start Mail
Merge" button to get started.
