When I try to open a Template that was created in Word 2000 in Word 2003 a
lot of the text show up red and blue and some of them have a line through
them.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening when opening the document in
Word 2003?

Did you have Track Changes on when you saved the template? Accept All
Changes.

The default in Word 2003 is to display "markup" (insertions, deletions,
comments) when you open a document. Apparently you had Track Changes on when
you created or edited this template, and you need to accept the changes in
order to remove the markup. On the Reviewing toolbar, click the arrow beside
Accept Change, choose Accept All Changes in Document, and then resave the
template (making sure that Track Changes is turned off).
