Word 2003
Hello Gurus: I have been experiencing an auto numbering situation €“ quite frequently. Lets say I have used the same numbering scheme throughout an entire document. However, there have been times when the auto numbering or outline numbering has gone awry. When I pick a location within the affected area and view the numbering setup via the *Bullets and Numbering* menu, I find that the numbering set-up for the affected area is highlighted in one of the other seven available layout panels within the menu instead of the original panel with the original numbering setup. It is almost as though the original numbering set-up panel has arbitrarily replicated itself and created a new panel with the same numbering setup, but additionally with something that is not quite right; perhaps the fonts on the 2nd, 3rd and/or 4th level have changed from *Times New Roman* to *Playbill* or something just as odd. If any one of you can understand either my question or my dilemma and has an explanation or solution, I would be very appreciative. Thanking you in advance, I remain€¦ Very truly yours - Rod |

The numbering formats "move around" in the dialog box; there is nothing you
can do about that. What you can do is set up numbering so that each numbered list, and each level of an outline-numbered list, is associated with a unique paragraph style. For outline numbering in particular, see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "RPMitchal" wrote in message ... Hello Stefan.
As always, thank you so very much for your response to my question. However, if I understand your response correctly, I am doing precisely what you've indicated should be done. For example, in my number setup, I use the built-in heading styles for my individual levels and customize them accordingly. Heading 1 - first level; Heading 2 - second level, so forth and so on. However, I continue to experience the situation as outlined in my original question. Much appreciation to you - Rod "Stefan Blom" wrote: The numbering formats "move around" in the dialog box; there is nothing you can do about that.
