Redefine Table of Contents in Building Blocks Gallery
I need to redefine a Table of Contents (Automatic) but I am getting random
results. All I want to do is set the colour of the heading to Automatic, so that it comes out black when used with our in-house themes. I am inserting the default ToC into my document, then editing the TOC Heading style to redefine the colour from Accent 1 to Automatic. Then I am selecting the updated Toc and doing Save Selection to Table of Contents Gallery. However sometimes when I insert the new ToC it is fine, other times, I get a random new style created called TOC Heading + (Latin) + Bold and the font is set to 1638pt!! I have tried numerous times, but this keeps happening. Is there something about the TOC Heading style that makes it different from other styles? Is there something about the way you select the TOC (ie it's in a content control) when saving as a gallery item? Any help gratefully received as this is very frustrating. |

Redefine Table of Contents in Building Blocks Gallery
To change the appearance of the table of contents entries, you should modify
the TOC styles rather than the heading styles. Observe that direct formatting applied to the headings will show up in the TOC, which might explain the strange things you (sometimes) see with TOC formatting. Modify the heading styles correctly instead of applying formatting directly to heading text. For general information about styles, see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styl...sOnStyles.html. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "DebsPink" wrote in message ... Redefine Table of Contents in Building Blocks Gallery
If you do not want to use the theme headings for your TOC heading, it may be
better to modify the style in your template and in all of your documents by getting rid of the theme-enabled setting (font: (default) +Heading) and changing the font to what you want. That way you and others can use any built-in TOC gallery. If you want the TOC heading to match the heading 1 (which in your case seems to be different from the default heading), modify it so it is based on heading 1, change the settings to match heading 1, and remember to change the paragraph level to body text.
