You'll then have a .docx of the same thing, alongside the original .doc. (Word2007 is in "Compatibility Mode" whenever it opens a .doc file.) But you then won't be able to open it in Word2003, in case you also have an older computer or are sending it to someone else. |

If you want to update the file and not save a copy in the .doc format then click the Office Button and then click Convert. If you want to save both a ..doc and a .docx copy then as "grammatim" suggested, use Office Button/Save As/Word Document. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beth Melton Microsoft Office MVP https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Melton What is a Microsoft MVP? http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/gp/mvpfaqs Guides for the Office 2007 Interface: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/tr...295841033.aspx |

I wanted to tell her about "Convert," but I couldn't find it -- does
it appear only when a .doc is open? On Feb 18, 9:58*pm, "Beth Melton" wrote: "roma" wrote in message ... -- roma I opened a Word 2003 doc and the next time I opened 2007 it is in Compatability Mode. Yes, like most of the commands in Word 2007 it's a contextual command so if
it can't be used it doesn't appear. I like the aspect of not seeing a bunch of disabled commands but it sure makes it rough on the memory sometimes. :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beth Melton Microsoft Office MVP https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Melton What is a Microsoft MVP? http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/gp/mvpfaqs Guides for the Office 2007 Interface: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/tr...295841033.aspx "grammatim" wrote in message ... I am also having trouble with compatability mode and did as you suggested
with the convert command. Although I no longer see the words "compatability mode" at the top of my document I still cannot use any of the functions such as highlighting text to bold, underline, etc. Any suggestions?
