Default Windows keyboard key sequence won't work in Word

Hello,
I just created a second keyboard in Windows XP, U.S. International, and set
the key combination to Alt+Shift+1 (for the standard keyboard) and
Alt+Shift+2 for the Int'l keyboard. Since those key combinations are set by
default to Show Heading 1 and 2, respectively, in Word, I haven't been able
to to override those shortcuts to activate the keyboard I want. Windows
doesn't seem to offer any other keyboard shortcuts; using the Ctrl+Shift
option has the same problem. Does anyone know how to override the built-in
Word settings?
Thanks.

Why don't you simply use the default keys that Windows Regional settings
offers i.e. LEFT ALT + Shift to toggle between keyboards?

That's really funny, cause I discovered that key combination a while after I
posted the message. Of course, Windows doesn't tell you anywhere that
Ctrl+Shift is available for that (it's either side, by the way). It only
says Left-Alt+Shift. The assignable key combinations are useless while
you're in Word. Leave it up the geniuses at Microsoft.
