What happens when you switch to normal view? And, if you are using balloons
to show markup, what happens when you do not use balloons?

Thanks for the response Pam, I am currently looking at the document in "print
layout" view, and it shows me the balloons from the left column. When I
changed to Normal view I cant see any balloons at all.
When I switch the balloons OFF, and make changes to the right or left column
they show up in a different colour.

In normal view, the markup should be in line with text. If the markup shows
up in both "columns" of the normal view, you know Word is collecting the
changes but for some reason can't display them in the right column in page
layout view. I very faintly remember some such problem with W2002 and
columns, but I don't remember the details. Do they display in a print
preview of the page layout?

AFAIK, when markup colors are set to per author, the only reason the colors
change is the user name is changed (via changing the Word user name on the
same computer or opening the file on a different computer).

The balloons do show up in print preview mode but only for the left column,
still nothing on the right column.

You didn't say whether the changes show up in normal view. If they do, you
might find this tip useful.

I haven't use W2002 in 5 or 6 years, and don't think I can help further.
Perhaps a current W2002 user can give more/better advice.
