Thanks for the speedy reply Graham. It was so much easier in 2003!

You could do it this way in any version, and you will find it quicker once
you get the hang of CTRL+F9 ![]() -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org SueG wrote: Thanks for the speedy reply Graham. But in previous versions, even if you didn't use the built-in Page X of Y
AutoText entry, you also had Insert Page Number and Insert Number of Pages buttons on the H&F toolbar. -- Suzanne S. It can be easier in Word 2007, too. There is a Page X of Y Building Block in
the Page Number gallery (Insert | Header & Footer | Page Number or Header & Footer Tools | Design | Header & Footer | Page Number). Note that the BB is described as "Bold Numbers," and in fact the numbers will be bold if you insert the BB as a header or footer (using the Top of Page or Bottom of Page item), but if you insert it using Current Position, the numbers will not be bold (which I'd guess would be most users' preference). -- Suzanne S. Thanks I understand what the OP states this was a built in option and i always favour it over the 1,2 styling as it doesn't indicate clearly how many pages came in the document whereas page x of y does. I typed all the above out but this was not showing the number even if i did press alt +f9 i took out the space commands written above. and it works by just having the following. {page}of{nUMPAGES} this is how it shows on my screen sorry for upper case levels but it works just press ALT+F9 to toggle between showing the numbers and the command view. In all honesty a waste of time having to do this when it should have been kept within the office program, i hope there is away of keeping this in there. |

After you have recreated { PAGE } of { NUMPAGES } you can add it to a
template or create an AutoText entry for easy re-use. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP wrote in message ...
